What is a Thai Bodywork session like?

The client is dressed in comfortable and easy to move in clothing. Throughout the session they will receive accupressure, reflexology, assisted yoga stretches, and the application of hand made hot floral and herbal compresses.  The sessions are generally 90-120min, and cover front, back and sides of body. No two sessions are the same. Your body will feel longer, and relieved of stress afterwards.  Thai bodywork targets the Sen energy line system and you will notice these energy lines effect more than just the physical body. You will find balance on mental, emotional and energetic planes from these healing  sessions.

Jap Sen Foundations

Jap Sen Herbal Thai Massage

Basics - 5 Day Training (35 hrs) $795-

Dates:

July 15-19

Oct 14-18

Master Lek Chaiya received the teachings of this unique and very therapeutic style of Thai bodywork from her teacher, Mae Manee.  She also learned Herbalism and Midwifery from her mother and furthered her knowledge with extensive Herbal Studies.  With over 40 years of experience she evolved the style and became a renowned Teacher.  Janice was fortunate to meet her in 1997 and learned one to one with her for many years and then hosted and co-taught with her at Spirit Winds in California from 2002-2013.  Together Janice and Lek produced Lek’s Advanced materials which are still only exclusively shared by Janice, honoring her as Lek’s foremost Western student.
Nerve Touch also known as “Jap Sen”, meaning “to grasp” the sen;  applies stronger pressure using knees, elbows, feet, and  heels.  This is a deeper approach with focus on increasing the range of motion for joints and relieving nerve pain. Lek made a specific blend of herbs for the medicinal herbal packs.  Jap Sen utilizes the steamed herbal packs in a specialized way to soften tendons and integrates them into the techniques throughout the session for effective therapy for painful conditions.
There is a “hook and gentle rolling over” the ridge of muscles and nerves for deep release of tension and therapeutic benefit for conditions such as:
*sciatica, *back pain,  *hip pain, *carpal tunnel syndrome, *numbness,  *paralysis,  *frozen shoulder,
*knee injuries, *ankle injuries, and many other conditions.

You  will learn a full 90 min bodywork routine by the end of this course.

This course will provide you with a strong foundation in the study of Thai Massage.

You will learn:

• 123 techniques from the Northern style tradition.

• A therapeutic approach to the body which never goes to a level of pain or beyond the clients limits of comfort.

• The use of proper body alignment and awareness while performing each technique.

• All 4 positions (front, back, side and sitting) as taught by the Institute of Thai Massage (ITM) in Chiang Mai, Thailand. “Sister Program” (certificates transfer)

• Mindfulness through yoga, meditation, and Qi Gong

Northern style is a slow, rhythmic massage focusing on soft tissue, producing a meditative and relaxing experience. The 134 techniques taught will give you 3 times more than can be performed in a 1 1/2 hour session. This gives you creative alternatives and flexibility in developing individually modified sessions. This course is recognized by the Institute in Chiang Mai as a “Sister program.” People receiving this certificate may go directly to advanced training levels in Thailand if they so desire. Instruction manuals are included in the fee.

Supervised Clinic In-Clinic practice completes this program with session practice. This is a valuable opportunity to integrate the techniques from levels I and II and to learn modifications and session routines by working on clients and fellow students in the Maja Yoga Clinic. This supervised practice makes a marked difference in the time it may take a student to gain confidence with the techniques and to begin to intuitively apply them in Thai bodywork sessions.

This workshop will provide students with Thai stretching techniques modified for use on a western massage table. If you would like to incorporate some Thai massage into your current practice or if you find it difficult to work Traditional Thai style on a mat, this will be a creative approach to Thai massage on a table.

What is Thai table massage and how can it help your practice?
How can you save your hands and benefit your body with Thai Table massage?

You will learn some of the best Thai massage stretches using proper body alignment with a rhythmic rocking movement that distributes your body weight and creates a flow instead of overusing your hands and body.  It’s easier to get deeper pressure because this style of bodywork is designed to use your whole body in a dynamic way that is efficient and effective.  Stretches and compression
release and lengthen the muscles, tendons and nerves and increase the range of motion of the joints all of which are key aspects of pain relief and therapy.

Thai Herbal packs are not just extra pampering, they make the treatments exponentially better in so many ways. The steamed herbal packs are applied with body weight to warm and soften areas of the body and help to increase the therapeutic value as you work. The packs are also a bridge in creating trust and helping your client to surrender to a deeper level of healing.  As more techniques are learned and we advance in our practice we can facilitate a holistic healing experience integrating physical, emotional and spiritual balance.

A non-refundable deposit of $100.00 is required.
